A Message from Principal Mary Sepler March 8th, 2018

Dear Families,

Thanks so much for supporting our Lowell Science Fair last night! We had so much enthusiasm from kids and adults alike.  Way to go Lowell Scientists and Engineers!

Annual Spring State Assessments

A reminder that students in grades 3 through 8 and high school will be taking state assessments this spring to measure English language arts (ELA), mathematics and science proficiency.

We encourage students, families and staff to keep these assessments in perspective and to remember that state tests are only one benchmark. Your child’s teachers are the best resource for a complete picture of your child’s academic proficiency.

The Smarter Balanced Assessment begins at Lowell next week with Grade 3 English Language Arts on March 13 and 15. The testing will begin first thing in the day, so please make a special effort to be here on time.

As with any day of important learning, a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast are an essential part of every school day. We recommend parents and guardians talk to their child about their learning and school day and keep things in perspective (and not overemphasize the test).

If you have questions regarding the test or process, please contact your child’s teacher.

Lowell Young Authors Celebration Monday, March 26

Lowell is gearing up for a fun-filled day celebrating the author and illustrator in every student.  On March 26 our entire school will transform into an all-day author and illustrator’s conference site.  Each student will attend three different workshops in addition to an assembly session with guest author Barbara Jean Hicks.  Other guest authors we are so excited to welcome to the event include Debu Majumdar, Nick James, Silje Watson, Sarah J Marsh and Steven Webb.  A sign-up genius was sent home today from your child’s teacher for parent volunteers.  I’ve included it again below.  If you can support this event, please sign up.

A reminder: no school for students tomorrow. Thanks for all you do to support our kids and school.
