A Message from Principal Mary Sepler Nov. 30th, 2017

Dear Families,

“So long” to November and “Hello” December!  This has been a difficult time for many in our school community as we grieve the loss of Tanya Rowe and her family.  We have found strength in each other and in the acts of kindness that are happening everywhere in our school community and beyond.  Two very important projects are in full swing and have had tremendous response already:

Our Lowell Student Leadership Team has a Personal Care Drive underway.

This Personal Care drive serves families across the district that are going through difficult times, including students that are experiencing homelessness and students in the district’s GRADS Teen Parent Program.   Collection baskets for donated items are outside classroom doors.

Items being collected, by grade, are:

Kindergarten: Newborn-size Diapers and Bar Soap/Body Wash

1st grade: Size 1 Diapers and Toothbrushes

2nd grade: Size 2 Diapers and Shampoo/Conditioner

3rd grade: Size 3 Diapers, Toothpaste, and Laundry Detergent

4th grade: Size 4 Diapers, Deodorant, and Toilet Paper

5th grade: Size 5 Diapers, Feminine Hygiene Products, and Baby Wipes

We are also collecting non-perishable snacks such as jerky, nuts, granola bars, dried fruit, applesauce, trail mix, and cereal bars, etc.

For the third straight year, Lowell is partnering with Wade King and Alderwood elementary schools to support families with our “Snowflake Giving” program.  At this point, we’re amazed to say all the snowflakes have been taken by students and families who wish to contribute.  We are looking to see if more are available and will post them as they come.  Please remember if your family has a snowflake, all gifts (unwrapped) should be back to Lowell by Thursday, December 7. Please have gifts in a bag with the snowflakes firmly attached.

Another meaningful way for you to contribute would be to send a roll of wrapping paper and some ribbon for use in preparing the gifts for the families.  Thank you!

Please remember our “Bedtime With Books” event at Village Books in Fairhaven next Wednesday, December 6, from 3:30-8PM.  There will be storytime with Lowell teachers, winter crafts, free cookies for Lowell students and photos with our friendly Yeti!  20% of Village Book purchases between 3:30-8PM will benefit our school library!  Pajamas are encouraged.

Wishing all a wonderful rest of the week,

Mary
